Why is this here?

Well, the idea is, eventually, making a forum/blog, discussing lightweight scripting and automation to help manage small the medium sized deployments of systems (100’s-1000’s of systems).

The idea is:

hey, I want to do X. It’s proabably been done before, and there probably is some huge pay-for framework you can install, on your “unsupported” flavor of linux/unix/* platform, that will sort of work for you.

But, If you’re the type of person who doesn’t want to debug this big (oracle|sun|…) suite, because you need a fraction of the functionality, you don’t have the ability to get a requisition for the cost, or you just don’t want to deal with the headaches, and you need some reasonably sized task, it might be nice to have a resource to get started with. and maybe even a “drop in place” zero configuration solution that will work for you.

I plan to open up a scripting discussion forum (maybe forum/mailing list, like opensolaris.org), a blog discussing various quirks, tricks, and new tech, and a download section comprising of many small task driven scripts that I have written over the years (many of which help automate role based system roll out (via RPM meta packages), user management, and active directory integration, simple administrative interfaces to delegate tasks back to your users, etc!).

There may be a user upload section as well, formed similar to userscripts.org, for group collaboration.
